The Economics Society of DPSI, more conventionally known as ESOC, is a ‘by the students, for the students’ cross-curricular collaboration dedicated to the promotion, awareness and cognizance of all matters relating to economics (namely everything you can think of!).
At ESOC, we strive to extend economic concepts beyond the realms of the classroom and the reams of our notebooks through a series of multi-disciplinary interactive events and projects.
From Economically driven quizzes and debates, to stimulating games and models replicating real life scenarios, to mock shark tanks, to econometric crosswords, or even committee/public body simulations on economic agendas. If it’s an economic investigation you crave, ESOC is the place for it!
The ESOC holds a variety of events on a regular basis, including “Colloquy - The ESOC Discourse” (informal discussions on interesting topics related to the subject), and is parallely looking forward to hosting the ‘Econclave’ and ‘Econfest’ events within DPSI in the near future. We also manage “The Analyst”, the society’s primary high-school academic journal with different articles pertaining to a variety of fields within economic horizons.
The ESOC is an assortment of people brought together by their love for the subject. The members of the society bond over different economic concepts and ideas, strongly believing that Economics is within the everyday, with something unique to offer for everybody!
We are ESOC
‘Colloquy - The ESOC Discourse’, a series of discussions to help facilitate the growth of young budding economists, by deliberating on current world issues and relating them to the basic economic concepts studied in the classroom! The structure of the event is that of an open town hall. We expect students to come well versed with the topic so that we can have a fruitful discussion about this global issue. There are 3 facilitators there to guide the flow of discussion. Over the period of discussion we introduce various economic concepts that are related to the topic at hand. We expect to see many of you participating in this event as it would allow you to develop your own perspective on pertinent issues, which would not only help you academically but at every stage in life may it be in university or in a workplace situation.
The Analyst is DPS International’s very first foray into the world of journals. By offering students of classes IX to XII the opportunity to write clear and persuasive articles on Economics and areas tangentially linked to economics, this journal aims to segue the essential craft of economic analysis and argument from the examination paper to the realm of more intellectual and scholarly work. Our mission, then, is the development of academic writing in an area which is relevant to both the institutional framework of society and the individual. By offering a free range of topics, students are free to explore issues and ideas from a macroeconomic or microeconomic perspective, free of the prescriptive limits of preset topics.
